Sportfishing is a hugely popular activity in Costa Rica, and nearly every beach town in Costa Rica will have at least one person who can take you out to try to catch a fish.
The more developed towns such as Jaco or Tamarindo will have an array of boats and sportfishing companies to take you to for Marlin.

Its good to read the comparison. I vestiid Costa Rica twice about ten years ago and loved the country. And I was looking for a warm place to retire too but I ended up buying on the big island of Hawaii. Its a lot cheaper for land there too, but prices are comparable to Calgary for everything else not that cheap, because it all has to be shipped in and that adds to the cost of every item. I might have to reconsider CR. How does real estate compare? But I agree with you about the attitude of the police. Its the same on the Big Island. Unless you’re murdering someone they dont really care too much. And once you’re used to that attitude, the cops in Calgary sure seem uptight. Mind you, few people speed on the Big Island cause there’s only one road around the island anyway and if you pass someone you’re only going to stuck behind the next car, there’s no alternative route, so you may as well kick back, enjoy the breeze and chill a little. Even the bumper stickers say, Slow down this ain’t the Mainland Enjoy!
