Angostura Lagoon is nestled near in the beautiful town of Turrialba. Turrialba is a small city in Cartago Province of Costa Rica with an estimated population of 35,618. Angostura Lagoon has the largest hydroelectric plant in the Costa Rica. Hydroelectricity is the term referring to electricity generated by hydropower; the production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling or flowing water. As the Costa Rican government is developing plans to begin offsetting all of the country’s carbon dioxide emissions and become the first Carbon Neutral Nation, this hydroelectric plant is very important from the eco-sustainability perspective.
