Surrounded by stunning vistas of the Pacific on a side, while being privy to views of the adjoining rainforests on the other, Lagarta Lodge is a 90-acre nature paradise that features everything from dense mangroves to thriving rainforests to rare wildlife species. Visitors can witness an assortment of topographical wonders such as river beds, mesmerizing tropical rainforests and dramatic mountain ranges. Add to this a huge number of indigenous bird and plant species and the setting is manna from heaven or any eco enthusiast.  Lagarta’s personalized hospitality, its magical sunset vistas, a bunch of friendly owners and a tranquil natural ambiance make is the preferred natural hideaway for several vacationers.

Tours and Amenities

Bird watching and guided nature walks are op activities at the Lagarta Lodge.  There are meticulously marked walking trails for visitors all around the reserve, where morning walkers can enjoy Nosara’s ecology, including its vast array of more than 270 bird species.  The lodge guests have free access to the reserve, where they can view native creatures such as rancoons, monkeys, coatis, armadillos and a host of reptiles. The famous nature walk starts at the lobby of Lagarta Lodge, where guests are handed over a comprehensive map of the reserve along with an extensive list of the vegetation in the preserve, with a snappy description of each.

The fun certainly doesn’t end there. A hike of about 10 minutes from the steep path along the forest brings guests to the golden sand Playa Guiones beach, where visitors can enjoy the region’s perfect waves and some true-blue sun and sand revelry.

Apart from this, visitors can go on guided boat tours to explore the region’s dense mangroves on electric powered boats, horse ride through the forest/beach landscape and witness the incredible turtle nestling phenomenon (watch hundreds of baby turtles scurry in the direction of the ocean in a once-in-a-lifetime experience) at Ostinoal (at a 25 minute ride from Nosara).

Food, Service and Accommodation

Lagarta Lodge’s partially open air restaurant lists a good, global cuisine dominated menu with fresh sea food and other fish preparations. The sunset bar is also frequented for its scrumptious canapés and creative cocktails. Breakfast comprises primarily of freshly baked breads and delicious homemade jams.

Accommodation at the Lagarta Lodge comprises six back-to-nature country style rooms, with each of them featuring an attached bathroom, a ceiling fan, a private balcony for sweeping oceanic, river and mountain vistas and air conditioning. The rooms are functional and unpretentious, while still retaining their well-illuminated, neat and comfortable appeal.

Room Rates

The price for a Single Standard Fan room is $ 75 USD from January 8th to April 14th 2012. Similarly a single night in a slightly plusher Single Superior A/C room will put you back by $ 105 USD during the same period.
