There is an incident behind the name of the Eco lodge. Lapa is the Costa Rican name of the Scarlet Macaw. When for the first time the owners of the lodge, John and Karen Lewis visited the property, they spotted a number of colorful Scarlet Macaws flying across the jungle that seemed to them much like a river (or rio in Spanish) of Scarlet Macaws and they were so amazed that they decided to name their property ‘Lapa Rios’ which means ‘river of Scarlet Macaws’.
