Macaw Lodge


Set within the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica, in Cerros de Turrubares (set in the countryside near Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast), the Macaw Lodge is a rural lodge. This small hotel is built in harmony with the environment. Though this lodge is nestled in a remote area, it is close to both Carara National Park (several hiking trails and good wildlife viewing) and the Pacific coastline (perfect for enjoying surfing, swimming or kayaking).



Macaw-lodge-sitting-area Macaw lodge offers 8 rooms and 4 cabins that can accommodate up to 28 guests comfortably.  All the rooms are surrounded by beautiful nature and constructed with beautiful wooden walls, large windows and high ceilings. Each of the rooms are featured with  two full beds with therapeutic mattresses and sheets made from bamboo fibers, ceiling fans and also has private bathrooms that are built from marble extracted and processed locally, solar heated water, towels. There are also large screened windows that make it possible to enjoy the breeze in the comfort of your room. People who want more space and independence they can stay at the cabins that are featured with one queen-size bed and two single beds. There are also a kitchen that is fully equipped for the guests who want to make their dish personally. If you want to spend relaxing time, you can sit on the rocking chairs in the covered balcony. Breakfast is included and other meals are optional. You will enjoy the delicious food that are locally sources, filling, and tasty. The lodge restaurant has covered outdoor seating and a marvelous view of the botanical gardens.


Surrounding area of the Macaw lodge offers plenty of options to enjoy a number of activities. You can visit the hotel’s botanical gardens, which include an impressive collection of heliconias, vines, palm trees and aquatic species. You can also go for a tour to the hotel’s cacao, coffee, and mangosteen plantations. If you are a yoga lover, you can head to the outdoor yoga studio to practice postures in nature. Nature lovers can go for a walk through the primary forest to a waterfall.



The Macaw Lodge is working hard to enhancing the awareness of sustainable living. All the buildings of this lodge are constructed with timber from the hotel’s own tree plantations. This lodge has energy and water saving systems and all the electricity is produced from solar energy. For the water supply is conserved via dual-flow toilets and low-flow shower-heads; the water, in fact, comes from the farm’s very own springs which are treated properly and in harmony with the environment, strictly avoiding the use of chemicals. For the lodge construction bamboo was extracted from the lodge’s own plantations and most of the floors and bathrooms were made from locally extracted stone that was worked on and polished.
