Mal Pais, a small town extends to the border of Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve.  Set on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, it is a tranquil area. Mal Pais didn’t get developed as much as Santa Teresa get. In Mal Pais you will enjoy the peaceful environment like that of small village. Though Malpais means “bad land” in Spanish, this place is just like a paradise with its greater amount of intact jungle, and more water in the hills that keeps the area greener.

Playa Mal Pais:

Cabo Blanco Absolute Reserve:

Just five miles from the Santa Teresa and Mal Pais intersection, you will find the back entrance of the Cabo Blanco Absolute Reserve. This reserve is home to different wild animals including over 39 species of bats. You can reach the beach by its short trail and one incredibly long way.
