Blue Jay Lodge Malpais

Blue Jay Lodge

Nestled at about 200 meters from a laidback, tropical sun kissed beach; Blue Jay Lodge Malpais is encircled by abundant natural beauty and the best beaches one can find in the Nicoya Peninsula.  The region’s alluring sunset vista, ideal surfing waters and spectacular Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve is all the more reason people flock to this unpretentious little gem to experience the real Costa Rica charm, minus the frills of the more upper crust eco luxury resorts. Blue Jay Lodge Malpais is a practical, minimalist and neat accommodation option that exudes a quite charm and unruffled simplicity. Located right in the middle of a lush tropical rainforest (that brings visitors up close and personal to authentic jungle experiences such as cries of howler monkeys, spotting nocturnal creatures and sweeping views of the verdant surroundings from the verandas), Blue Jay is as much known for its affable owners as for its comfortable wood cabinas. Add to that a delicious and hearty homemade breakfast along wih attentive hospitality and you’ve got a great vacation retreat combination. This warm family type accommodation is an inspiring change for tourists looking for a more peaceful holiday experience. It offers the right dose of isolation, privacy and an exclusive appeal to help tourists savor a calm and authentic tropical retreat experience.

Tours and Amenities

Blue Jay offers a heady mix of guest amenities to keep their patrons on their toes, while ensuring their comfort, convenience and recreation. Patrons can enjoy a relaxed dip in the lodge’s in house pool or feast on a generous local breakfast spread at the informal yet intimate restaurant (featuring a beautiful ocean and pool backdrop).

Adventure aficionados have a wide variety of activities to pursue in the ‘buzzing with tourist action’ Malpais area. The most sought after recreational activities in the vicinity of Blue Jay Lodge are a tour of the region’s beaches (Playa Carmen, Manzanillo and Santa Teresa), trips to the picturesque and ‘straight out of a catalogue’  quaint seaside village (for high action adventure pursuits including surfing, horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkeling and competitive deep sea fishing), a day trip to the nearby Cabo Blanco National Park and Nature Reserve, birding, wildlife spotting, languid sunbathing and treating your eyes to some of the most magical tropical land sunsets.

Accommodations

Blue Jay Lodge Malpais offers accommodations in the form of 10 sprawling, comfortable and neatly kept bungalows (or tree house cabinas) that exude an unmistakable rustic charm. Each house features an ingenious wood design and is prettily surrounded by native plantations and verdant tropical garden. The tree houses have a bedroom (with 2-3 beds) each for accommodating about 2-4 people together with a balcony that features hammocks (allowing guests to savor spectacular views of Blue Jay’s surroundings), an independent bathroom (with hot water), a ceiling fan and a safe box. The raised structure of these bungalows lets patrons take in the vistas of the lush neighboring areas from a vantage point, while also awarding the opportunity to live in the midst of a thrilling yet tranquil jungle setting.  The high point of the guests stay here is the lying on the balcony hammocks and enjoying the up, close and personal encounters with rare indigenous birds and iguanas that stop by the terrace each day.

Rates

The price for the ocean view bungalows for a double occupancy arrangement is $ 69 a night USD during medium demand season and $ 79 night during peak tourist season. Likewise, for quadruple occupancy, the rate for a tree house bungalow is $ 100 USD for medium demand season and $ 115 USD for peak season
