La Carolina lodge offers something for everyone. Be it the crystal clear river for a swim, the huge farm field, the lush tropical forest or bird watching every aspect of this lodge guarantees a pure Costa Rica experience. It nestles on the eastern slopes of Volcano Tenorio also known as the home of the famous Rio Celeste Waterfall which is located in the Northwestern Costa Rica.

Lodging & Amenities La Carolina Lodge

The La Carolina lodge offers 9 different type of accommodation. Each is distinctively designed for different needs. Here is a brief breakdown of each with its specialty and features:

    El Toucan: This private cabin is a perfect pick for the newlyweds for their honeymoon. Equipped with a private hot tub, a hammock and shaded veranda.

    La Mariposa: It’s a cabin by the riverside a good pick for those who are like to be surrounded with nature.

    El Commisario: It is the largest private house in La Carolina lodge which accommodates 6 to 8 persons The private house overlooks beautiful gardens.

    El Paso Fino: This private house is situated on top of the hill overlooking the lodge and river. It can capacitate up to 6 persons.

    El Colibri: A terrific stay for the family of 3. It is built just a few steps away from the main lodge and behind it.

    La Casona: A great cabin with 4 bedrooms, small library and a family sprawl area – perfect for a big family. It can accommodate 11 persons.

    La Amapola: It is a basic cabin with a big dressing room. This cabin can accommodate 6 persons.

    El Trogon: Secluded from the main lodge, this private house is located at a 10-minute walk. It gives an amazing view of the forest and meadows. Can accommodate 4 persons.

    El Cedero: This structure of wood is situated at a few minutes of drive from the main lodge. You can cook your own meals, relax under the shadow of trees by the riverside or enjoy your swings in the balcony by lying in the hammocks. This private house can accommodate a maximum of 6 persons.

osa-peninsula-wildlife Carolina lodge spreads over 170-acre ranch and most of the food is cultivated in its farms. Foods like red and black beans, root vegetables, malanga, lemons, bananas, papaya, tomatoes, oranges, pineapples and many more. Meats such as pork, chicken and beef are mainly produced on the farm itself.

How to get there?

You can reach La Carolina lodge by public transport or private car:

From La Fortuna & Arenal Volcano

You can only commute in a 4×4 vehicle. Drive to San Rafael de Guatuso. Drive to Highway #4 leading to Upala, drive past the village of Katira and right after 10km you will arrive at San Luis village. Keep an eye on the right for a signboard that reads “La Carolina Lodge” Take a left as indicated on the signboard to head to La Carolina lodge. Continue driving on the gravel road you’ll come across San Luis elementary school keep driving on the unpaved road leading to village of Santo Domingo. Once there look for the lodge signboard that instructs to turn right. Drive for 5km and you’ll pass two bridges as soon as you cross the second bridge you’ll see the lodge’s entrance on your left.

By Bus

A bus runs from Canas to Upala and exits at Bijagua. If you’d like to opt for a taxi go at up front to the bus station and you will find many taxis stationed for passengers. Take any taxi which is reasonable for your budget the fare ranges from $25 to $30.

By Air

The preferred airport is Liberia International Airport.
